Sustainability
Gung Ho completed a sustainability assessment as part of our partner application process. To promote transparency, their responses to our questions are below:
What is our mission?
Gung Ho’s mission is to encourage everyday activism through what you wear. To get people talking in a positive light about issues that are overwhelming and help to educate on these difficult subjects. We believe in thoughtful purchasing, and support good, talented people and innovation in whatever way we can. Gung Ho wants to inspire a movement of change, not just through clothing but through events, collaborations and just a jolly good time. Who said changing the world had to be boring?
Our sustainability statement?
We’re Gung Ho about fashion that proudly showcases your passions and beliefs. We weave conversation starters into the design of every garment. But we don’t stop there. Gung Ho aims to leave as little impact as possible, support wonderful people and champion the charities that work with the issues you are wearing. We truly believe the industry needs to provide sustainable fashion that doesn’t compromise on taste and style, whilst inspiring new minds that might not know about these issues in an inclusive way. So let’s create a movement that makes it exciting to be part of the change, and ultimately give back positively, one conversation at a time.
What UN Sustainable Development Goals are we contributing to?
12 - Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, through Gung Ho's design and manufacturing. 13 - Educating through our prints and minizines, explaining the causes shown in the print, why it is important and what actions they can take to make a difference. 14 - Campaigning vai our Plastic Oceans collection, with 10% of the profits going back to Surfers Against Sewage. 15 - Campaigning through our various collections and supporting one of our charities, Friends of the Earth. For every person who signs up to our mailing list we protect 100m² of Amazonian rainforest through OneTribe. 16 - Campaigning and collaborating with The Worldwide Tribe, with 10% of the profits from that collection going back to help their campaigns.
Do we have any certifications?
We use GOTS certified organic cotton. Fabrics recycling plastic bottle which are Global Recycled Standard certified. All our prints use inks that are AZO free. Our sweatshirts and t-shirts are Fair Wear Foundation Certified factories. Our London makers & fabric printers are both are too small to have certifications, however they have signed contracts for Gung Ho's policy to guarantee safe working conditions, respecting workers’ rights, avoiding any type of child, forced or bounded labor, as well as any type of discrimination or harassment in the workplace, across its whole value chain.
What internal measures do we take to reduce our company’s carbon footprint?
We use more sustainable fabrics that reduce water consumption or energy. Source as locally as possible to cut down our carbon footprint. Design garments to be as adjustable as possible so they last longer as well as fitting you if you gain or lose weight. Make zero waste accessories with offcuts and collection scraps. Have a return scheme for products at the end of their life span, incentivising customers to send them back to us to be repurposed with broken vintage and antique furniture to upcycle into new products.
How do we adhere to fair labor conditions?
We either use Fair Wear Certified Factories or for smaller locally made collections they sign our Gung Ho policy. We visit these local makers all the time and have very good relationships with them.
