Sustainability

Votch completed a sustainability assessment as part of our partner application process. To promote transparency, their responses to our questions are below:

What is our mission?
To offer a vegan alternative to leather and to give back to charity.
Our sustainability statement?
The core of our business is to look for new, innovative materials that are less harmful to the environment, one success story we have is our use of Pinatex, a by-product of the pineapple harvest where no extra land is used to create a superbly durable leather like material. We have also recently introduced AppleSkin in to our product offering, a materiel made from apple waste from the apple juice industry. Our researchers are always on the look out and we are currently trialing several others.
What UN Sustainable Development Goals are we contributing to?
● On top of creating a vegan product which is not as damaging to the environment as tanneries, we also use recycled materials in our products, utilise by-products and also send all our products in fully recyclable packaging. We also only strive to work with like minded businesses like our tote bag manufacturer, who like us donate a portion of their profits to worthy causes. In 2021 we introduced a tree planting scheme so now for every order through our website, we plant a mangrove in Madagascar.
Do we have any certifications?
We are PETA approved and have recently received our Living Wage accreditation.
What internal measures do we take to reduce our company’s carbon footprint?
We work from a co-working space which is a far more efficient way of sharing resources. In additional we car share and offer free bus and bike travel to reduce our personal carbon footprint.
How do we adhere to fair labor conditions?
We manufacturer in China through a British team on the ground who vet the factories for fair practise. But above this, we want to see this with our own eyes so we have visited our factory and spent some time getting to know the people who work there and understand the working conditions first hand.
